This is one of the biggest misconceptions visitors bring to Las Vegas: because cannabis is legal, they assume they can use it everywhere — including nightclubs, pool parties, and casino bars. They cannot. Nevada law prohibits cannabis consumption in any public place, and every major nightlife venue in Las Vegas enforces this strictly. That does not mean cannabis and nightlife are incompatible — it means you need a plan.
The Reality: Where Cannabis Is NOT Allowed
Every venue listed below prohibits cannabis smoking, vaping, edible consumption, and visible possession of cannabis products. Security staff are trained to identify cannabis use and will act on it.
Nightclubs
No cannabis smoking, vaping, or visible consumption at any Las Vegas nightclub. This includes XS, Hakkasan, Omnia, Marquee, Drai's, and every other club on or off the Strip. Security will confiscate your products at the door or eject you if you are caught consuming inside. There is no exception for VIP tables, bottle service areas, or private rooms within the club.
- At the door: Security searches bags and pockets. Cannabis products will be confiscated
- Inside: If you are caught smoking or vaping cannabis, you will be removed immediately — no refund on cover charges or table minimums
- Vape pens: Some clubs allow nicotine vaping in designated areas, but cannabis vape pens are prohibited. Staff can tell the difference by smell
Pool Parties
The same rules apply at every dayclub and pool party: Encore Beach Club, Wet Republic, Marquee Dayclub, Drai's Beach Club, Ayu Dayclub, and all others. These are public venues where cannabis consumption is illegal under Nevada law. The open-air setting does not change the rules — pool decks, cabanas, daybeds, and bungalows are all public spaces.
Bars & Restaurants
Cannabis is prohibited at all food and beverage establishments under Nevada law. This includes bars, restaurants, gastropubs, cocktail lounges, and any establishment with a liquor license. Consuming an edible at a restaurant is technically a violation of the establishment's license terms, even though it is virtually undetectable.
Casino Floors
This is one of the most common misconceptions: because tobacco smoking is permitted on many casino floors, visitors assume cannabis is too. It is not. Nevada Revised Statute 202.2483 specifically addresses smoking in public places, and cannabis smoke is not covered by the casino tobacco exemption. Casino security will intervene if they detect cannabis smoke or vapor on the gaming floor.
The fact that you see people smoking cigarettes on casino floors does NOT mean cannabis is permitted. Casinos have a specific exemption for tobacco under NRS 202.2483. Cannabis has no such exemption. Getting caught smoking cannabis on a casino floor can result in ejection and a trespass notice.
Pre-Gaming with Edibles
This is the safest and most practical way to combine cannabis with a night out in Las Vegas. The approach is simple: consume a low-dose edible at your private accommodation before heading to the club, bar, or casino.
| Factor | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Dose | 2.5–5 mg THC. This is a low, manageable dose that will not impair you to the point of being visibly intoxicated |
| Timing | Take the edible 60–90 minutes before you plan to arrive at the venue. Edibles take time to kick in and you want to be past the onset phase before you get to the door |
| Duration | Effects last 4–6 hours, which covers most nightclub sessions |
| Detection risk | Zero. No smell, no smoke, no paraphernalia, nothing for security to find |
| If you are also drinking | Do NOT exceed 5 mg. Cannabis amplifies alcohol and vice versa. See the crossfading warning below |
Pre-gaming with edibles lets you enjoy the effects of cannabis throughout your night out without breaking any venue rules, risking ejection, or drawing attention from security. It is the approach most experienced cannabis consumers in Las Vegas use when they want to combine cannabis with the traditional nightlife scene.
Cannabis + Alcohol: The Crossfading Warning
Why Cannabis + Alcohol Is Riskier in Vegas
- Free drinks on the casino floor: Casinos serve complimentary cocktails to anyone gambling. It is easy to lose count, especially when drinks are free and someone is handing them to you
- Extreme heat: Summer temperatures exceed 110°F. Alcohol and cannabis both impair your body's ability to regulate temperature and recognize dehydration
- Dehydration: The desert climate, air-conditioned casino interiors, alcohol, and cannabis all contribute to rapid dehydration. This magnifies the impairing effects of both substances
- Long walking distances: The Strip is over 4 miles long. Getting from your hotel to a club to a restaurant involves far more walking than most visitors expect — and doing so while impaired by two substances increases fall risk and disorientation
If You Choose to Use Both
- Reduce both significantly. If you would normally have 4 drinks, have 2. If you would normally take 10 mg THC, take 5 mg or less
- Order of operations matters. Cannabis before alcohol is generally less intense than alcohol before cannabis. If you use an edible before going out and then drink moderately at the venue, the effects are more predictable than getting drunk first and then consuming cannabis later
- Drink water aggressively. For every alcoholic drink, have a full glass of water. This is good advice in Las Vegas regardless of cannabis use
- Eat a real meal before you go out. A full stomach slows alcohol absorption and can moderate edible absorption as well
- Never drive. Use rideshare exclusively. Even if you feel fine, the combination of cannabis and alcohol impairs judgment and reaction time far more than either substance alone
Signs You Have Overdone It
- Dizziness or the room spinning ("the spins")
- Nausea or vomiting
- Extreme anxiety or paranoia
- Rapid heartbeat or heart pounding
- Confusion or difficulty speaking
- Feeling like you are going to pass out
What to Do If You or Someone Overdoes It
- Stop consuming both substances immediately
- Drink water — slowly but consistently
- Find a quiet, cool place to sit down (casino lobbies, hotel rooms, any air-conditioned space)
- If symptoms are severe — uncontrollable vomiting, loss of consciousness, chest pain — call 911. You will not be arrested for being intoxicated. Medical staff are there to help
- Do not leave someone alone who is severely impaired. Stay with them until they recover or help arrives

Planning Your Night: The Smart Approach
If you want to enjoy cannabis and still experience Vegas nightlife, here is the step-by-step approach that works:
- Consume cannabis at your private accommodation or a licensed lounge BEFORE going out. This is the key step. Whether you smoke at your cannabis-friendly Airbnb, vape on a private patio, or take an edible in your room — do it before you leave for the venue
- Use rideshare to get to clubs and bars. Never drive after consuming cannabis, alcohol, or both. Uber and Lyft are everywhere in Las Vegas and most rides are under $15
- Moderate alcohol if you have consumed cannabis. Two drinks when you have THC in your system will feel like four or five. Know your limits and cut yourself off early
- Stay hydrated. Especially from May through September, dehydration is a genuine medical risk. Carry a water bottle, drink between alcoholic beverages, and do not ignore thirst
- Keep cannabis products locked in your room, not on your person. There is no reason to carry cannabis products to a nightclub, bar, or casino. Leave everything at your accommodation. If security finds cannabis on you, you lose it
Before you head out for the night, do a pocket check. Leave all cannabis products, vape pens, edibles, and accessories locked in your room or rental. Bringing them to a club or casino creates risk with zero benefit — you cannot use them there anyway.
Cannabis-First Nights: Skip the Club Scene
Not everyone comes to Las Vegas for the nightclub scene — and if cannabis is your priority, you may have a better time skipping the clubs entirely. Here are alternative evening plans built around cannabis rather than alcohol:
Visit a Consumption Lounge
DAZED! at Planet 13 and NuWu SkyHigh Lounge are both open into the evening and offer a social atmosphere where cannabis use is the entire point. Purchase products on-site, consume legally, and enjoy the vibe without worrying about rules or detection.
Book a Cannabis Tour
The Canna-bus and other cannabis tour operators run evening experiences that combine dispensary visits, consumption on a private party bus, and sometimes stops at cannabis-friendly venues. It is a social, guided experience that takes the planning out of your hands.
Cannabis-Friendly Rental + Quiet Evening
Some of the best cannabis experiences in Las Vegas happen at a cannabis-friendly Airbnb with good company, good music, and no agenda. Smoke on the patio, order delivery food, watch the Strip lights from a distance. Not every Vegas night needs to involve a velvet rope.
Late-Night Dispensary Run + Late-Night Food
Many Las Vegas dispensaries are open until midnight, and several operate 24 hours a day. Pair a late-night dispensary visit with a meal at one of Vegas's many 24-hour restaurants — Peppermill, Denny's on the Strip, Hash House a Go Go, or any of the casino coffee shops that never close. Take your edible, get a booth, and enjoy a meal while the effects set in.
